Cost Analysts are responsible for assisting in the gathering of financial data and then using that financial data to identify any potential cost concerns or cost issues. In addition, Cost Analysts are responsible for identifying ways to cut production costs or identify expenses that can be lowered during manufacturing or the procurement of goods and service. Cost Analysts assist in helping find ways to decrease inefficient spending and ultimately increase profits by tracking cost expenses over a long period of time.

Cost Analysts are in charge of estimating potential budgetary costs and production costs as it relates to manufacturing and producing goods and/or services. The information and estimations that Cost Analysts curate and develop assist executives and management teams when they are evaluating potential business and product opportunities. Once a new product or service has been launched, Cost Analysts are also responsible for comparing the final cost of the product and their original estimations, so they can create accurate predictions in the future by identifying ways in which their original predictions and estimations were wrong.

Cost Analysts might assist in conducting financial audits on products, procedures, manufacturing processes, or market conditions to identify potential product and service offering opportunities. Cost Analysts can work in a variety of roles and are not limited to just working in the production of goods and services. In some cases, Cost Analysts can even work in roles where they will help manage the effectiveness of marketing campaigns or legal departments to identify whether or not any regulation changes will affect profitability.
